Session Info
Basic Session (1 Hour)
A one-hour session is designed to be relaxed and engaging, allowing time for the pet to settle in and showcase their personality. Upon arrival, I ask the client how many photos they would like, typically offering around 5 images. During this I let the pet adjust while discussing any specific shots before getting started.
Once the pet is comfortable, I capture a mix of candid and lightly posed shots, focusing on natural interactions, expressive eye contact, detailed close-ups, and if suitable, action moments. I follow the pet’s lead, taking breaks if needed to keep the session enjoyable.
As we wrap up, I’ll review the shots to ensure variety and discuss next steps with the client. I’ll provide an estimated timeline for the edited images to be finished.
Intermediate Session (2 Hours)
A 2 hour session is similar to a 1 hour session just with more time for pets who might need longer to warm up, multiple pets, or because you would like more than 5 edited photos. I typically offer around 10 photos, but that can be adjusted based on the client’s preference.
With more time, I’m able to focus on better detailed close-ups, eye contact, etc. If the session involves multiple pets, they are either photographed together, and I go back and forth, or I set an amount of time for each. Breaks are included to keep the pet comfortable, and I change my approach based on their energy level and personality.
At the end of the session I review the images and discuss the editing and delivery timeline with the client. The 2 hour session ensures a well-rounded selection of images while keeping the experience as stress-free as possible.
Advanced Session (3 Hours)
A 3 hour session allows for the most flexibility, making it ideal for multiple locations, and pets that might need extra time to relax. If it’s a different location, I start with letting the pet explore and get used to the area, while also going over any requests from the client. Typically, a 3 hour session offers 15 photos, but this can be adjusted if they want more or less.
The session begins like the other two options, candid, lifestyle shots, close-ups, and if possible and/or wanted posed portraits. With the additional time, I can experiment a bit more with different lighting and backgrounds. Possibly incorporating props or mild costume accessories, if the pet is comfortable. If the session includes multiple locations, we would be at each location for approximately an hour.
Towards the end, I check the photos, capture any final shots, and confirm with the client that we have covered everything they wanted. I then provide an estimated timeline for editing and delivery. This extended session allows for a more in-depth, creative approach while keeping the pet’s comfort the top priority
